These tickets include Cathedral entry on the day of your tour. These tours are very popular so are subject to availability.

Stonemasonry Works Yard Tour

Our expert guides will show you around our Stonemasonry Works Yard, one of only ten cathedral yards in the country. Learn how 150 million-year-old blocks of Jurassic limestone weighing up to 5 tons are transformed to restore parts of the Cathedral. You’ll visit the Drawing Office where the conservators and stone specialists carry out conservation planning, and you’ll witness astounding hand-carving skills that have been practiced here since the 13th century.

Ticket includes admission in to the Cathedral and Chapter House with Magna Carta on the day of your tour. This tour may not be suitable for anyone under 10 years of age. The tour is partly outside so please ensure you wear suitable clothing and footwear.

Tower Tour

Wind your way up narrow spiral staircases climbing 332 steps in easy stages into our ancient roof spaces to the foot of our iconic spire, 68 metres above ground level. Before booking a Tower Tour, please read the following statements.

• The tour is expected to take 90 – 105 minutes.
• Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the tour time; an essential health and safety talk takes place prior to the start of the tour. If you arrive late you will not be permitted to attend the tour.
• The tour is strongly NOT recommended for people with cardiovascular, respiratory diseases, vertigos, claustrophobia, pregnant women and those over 80 years old.
• There are 332 steps on the tour, with no lifts or elevators. Many of the stone stairways are narrow without handrails.
• Please visit our toilets in the Cloisters before embarking on your tour as there are no toilets on route.
• Children under the age of 7 are not permitted on the tour. Participants must be at least 4ft (120cm) tall.

• Children aged 7 – 10 years olds must be individually accompanied by a responsible adult. This adult cannot be responsible for any other children on the tour.
• Children aged 11- 16 years old must be accompanied by at least one responsible adult for every five children. Please see statement above regarding children aged 7-10.
• Participants must wear suitable footwear. Bags are not permitted and must be stored in the provided lockers. Stored bags may be no larger than 45x36x20cm.
• Food or Drink is not allowed on the tour but, water is available if required. Dogs are not permitted on the tour.
• Tours may be cancelled due to safeguarding, safety concerns from our Tower Guides or high winds.

Library Tour

A winding stone staircase above the Cloisters leads to our library, which was built in 1445. It contains over 10,000 books, with some that are over 1000 years old. An expert will show you a range of books specially selected to demonstrate the importance and variety of the collection. A fascinating glimpse into the Cathedral and the past.

Tour last approximately one hour.
